A fun-filled one-day workshop designed specifically for the Australian tourist or business executive visiting Hong Kong, China or Taiwan.
Rationale Unlike certain countries in South East Asia (eg. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand) where English is widely spoken, the East Asian countries of mainland China (Peoples Republic of China) and Taiwan use Mandarin as the most common form of verbal communication. As a business executive or tourist visiting these countries, it is mandatory that you know a few words of this language. Not only will it help you enjoy more of your holidays but it will also add that extra dimension of fun trying it out with the "locals". Your tourist guide will not always be there with you. Knowing certain key words for any emergencies that may arise could save you a lot of trouble or embarrassment. Certainly, if you are travelling by yourself, what you will learn in this workshop will essentially be part of your survival kit.
Workshop Objectives In this workshop, participants will be taught how to speak the most commonly used Chinese phrases and some of the more important words that you may need to use during your stay in China or Taiwan. The main topics covered include: - Numbers (1-100, 1000's) - Working with money - Telling the time - Greetings - Pronouns and Interrogatives - Practicalities and emergencies In addition, integrated with the language studies, some Chinese social customs and culture will be covered. The approach used to teach all this is based wholly on Accelerated Learning principles.
Can I Really Learn So Much In This Workshop? You will be taught approximately 100 words of spoken Mandarin using Accelerative Learning techniques in one day! It should be understood that Accelerative Learning is not "Miraculous Learning" and that participants will still need to practise what they have learnt from this workshop. This is similar to learning any new skill eg. driving a car, riding a bike etc. Practice makes perfect! Hence, the course materials provided is very comprehensive to help you remember the words that you have learnt with us in just this one day. In addition to the course notes, we also provide a CD and m3 downloads with clear pronunciations of the words you have learnt. Most importantly, we teach you how to use an English-Chinese e-dictionary or mobile app.
"I have travelled to China 4 times on business since I commenced the course this year, it has been a great help and a lot of fun speaking to the local Chinese. I will be travelling back probably another 3 times before Christmas and I feel well equipped to handle many situations. Although I cannot discuss business at this stage I can get by quite easily travelling, having minor chitchat and I am able to get what I need and be understood in many situations...mostly with a lot of laughing from them. For someone who has never attempted another language and I would hate to say how long it has been since I went to school but with this course and type of teaching, I have learnt so much!".
